Vanguard Initiative is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization enhancing young lives through archery in Arizona!

JOAD & Adult Program

Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is part of a nationwide program through USA Archery. The program provides youth a platform to learn and develop archery skills to compete or enjoy the sport recreationally. We also encourage individuals 21+ years of age to participate in our adult program. No previous experience is required. Archery provides the opportunity to participate in a sport which is centered around goal setting, develops problem solving skills, increases focus, builds confidence and helps create friendships that will last a lifetime.

Our club, like many others throughout the country is facilitated by certified instructor(s) through weekly sessions for members and open to new comers of all ages. Each athletes' progress will be tracked through specific training plans and USA Archery Achievement awards to serve as milestones as they develop.

Whether your interest is purely recreational, Olympic, Paralympic, or World Championship dream, USA Archery's JOAD program is tailored to help the archers achieve their goals. Our club offers reduced pricing for seniors 65+ and military veterans.

Safety First

Believe it or not, archery is statistically one of the world's safest sports.

All of our instructors, staff, and volunteers who have regular contact with youth participants are required to continually participate in training provided by the U.S. Center for Safesport. Safesport works collaboratively with sport organizations to foster a culture of safety by raising awareness, centralizing best practices, and providing education and training to promote respect and prevent abuse.

Inclusion

Our club supports the inclusion of all participants of any ethnic background, gender, economic challenges and/or disabilities.

  • Assistance is available for youth archers who come from economically challenged households. This includes discounted membership dues and access to club owned archery equipment. For more information, please contact us at info@vginitiative.org

  • For those with disabilities, please contact us with any questions. We ask that new applicants please specify condition(s) that may present special challenges for the participant and any required accommodations on the membership registration form

Coaching Philosophy

The chances of obtaining positive outcomes is increased when we develop a consistent mental process that is accessible on demand (especially under pressure). Our coaching philosophy is centered on this concept:

"Fortune favors the prepared mind"
